DRAGONFLY.... finally!

I have finally gotten a decent picture of a dragonfly.  I found this guy at the Bonny Burns ranch in Calhan, Colorado.  I have difficulty photographing insects because of my limited lens options, but this guy was very large and I was able to focus in on him using my zoom from the edge of the pond.  He would spook and fly away but always returned, possibly to feed on the ladybug that was on the twig it perched on.

  1. nice shot! I have a few from my Kentucky adventure I am still waiting to post.....I have a blue and a green dragonfly, but they are much thinner than the ones that I saw buzzing around like yours on the In-Laws property.

  5. Congrats on the capture! They usually take off and return to the same perch. Watch for them having something in their mouths when they return.

  6. There's been lots of dragonfly photographs lately, and I for one, wish I could find one to photograph.  Or, in my case, "try" to photograph!  Funny, today I spotted the first one I've seen this summer... it was flying up above the trees in my parents' backyard.  I didn't have my camera, so no shot was possible, but I finally saw one here!  Your photo is great!
