MAY FLURRIES

I woke this morning to the calming beauty of falling snow.  I stood outside and closed my eyes, call me nuts, but I swear I could hear the snow falling. And the smell... its different from rain, its fresh and cool, and it stirs the memory of other scents like a crackling fire in the hearth and fresh pine needles, but by itself, it is the fragrance of clean air and mountain breezes.  Its the soft aroma of fluffy white clouds.  At the age of 45 I still get excited by fresh fallen snow.

I wonder if you're on the same latitude as Scotland - which also had a little snow today.  I agree, snow does have it's own very unique scent - but it's a scent which goes better with log fires and lamb stew n dumplings and Church Christmas bells imho  :O)

I am so snowed out but can understand the feeling.

I like the softness of the lack of sound in the air when the flurries begin to fall. There is such a hush that accompanies as if the flakes absorb the sounds. Thanks for sharing!

I remember as a kid that I could not wait to get out in the snow waking up in the morning and seeing the drifts.    Then playing in it and building snow caves which I now know are not always safe for kids.    Then going inside after freezing my hands and feet and sitting at the table for a hot meal.     I am done with the wood burner now and am getting ready to sweat.    It has been around 80F and raining and the weather is finally spring.    I enjoyed your photo of snow on the tree.   mark

You can smell snow in the air before it arrives can't you?! I like looking at it but don't like going out in it. Jeannette xx
