I have finally gotten a decent picture of a dragonfly. I found this guy at the Bonny Burns ranch in Calhan, Colorado. I have difficulty photographing insects because of my limited lens options, but this guy was very large and I was able to focus in on him using my zoom from the edge of the pond. He would spook and fly away but always returned, possibly to feed on the ladybug that was on the twig it perched on.

nice shot! I have a few from my Kentucky adventure I am still waiting to post.....I have a blue and a green dragonfly, but they are much thinner than the ones that I saw buzzing around like yours on the In-Laws property.
awesome!

Wonderful shot. I never see any land long enough for to take a photo :).

Been trying to capture Dragonflies and butterflies, but they wont sit still long enough for me. Am keeping trying.

Wonderful...I saw a lot of this variety today at a company picnic. Very good photo!
Congrats on the capture! They usually take off and return to the same perch. Watch for them having something in their mouths when they return.
There's been lots of dragonfly photographs lately, and I for one, wish I could find one to photograph. Or, in my case, "try" to photograph! Funny, today I spotted the first one I've seen this summer... it was flying up above the trees in my parents' backyard. I didn't have my camera, so no shot was possible, but I finally saw one here! Your photo is great!
That is awesome, Dorn!!!

Perfect shot! It was really nice of this dragonfly to stop long enough, for this snapshot. LOL! ~Deborah
Hi, again. I know this isn't anywhere near as good as your photos but I thought you might like this dragonfly pic:

Yay! It's kinda trait of dragonflies to fly and return. Love the wing pattern on this one.
very nice!
love that black and white wing pattern.
I tried the other day to catch a very large dragon fly....
didn't happen. :p
love the shot!
Well done, I've limited use also so this is a brilliant capture. Love those wings, he's colour co-ordinated. Great. xxRache
I love dragonflies. We have many but still get just a glimpse. What a wonderful shot! Congratulations. Patience pays off!
