WILLOW SPRINGS PONDS

When I first came to Colorado, these ponds were a favorite playground for my children as well as my neice and nephews.  Sadly, chemical run-off from a plant miles away has contaminated the water and the ponds and the surrounding park is now closed.

We used to catch fish and crawdads here.  The fish are thriving but no one dares to try and catch them.

I have never had any luck photographing insects, usually I have settle for pictures of dead bugs since the live ones are too fast for me.  This little turquoise dragonfly was very cooperative and waited patiently while I focused on it.

I could not believe my luck when I saw these cactus flowers.  I usually happen upon them when they are either not quite fully opened, or already closing.  These ones were almost posing for me.

It's really so sad about your ponds.  One good thing your photo opportunity isn't lost, wonderful captures :).

How sad!  Do the chemicals harm the fish too?

These are wonderful, especially the pond.  Been seeing lakes & ponds good part of the day, while driving & haven't found one good enough to photograph.
Thanks for sharing~

Congrats on the captures- dragonfly(looks like a forktail/ damselfly) and cactus.
Always amazes me how things can appear so normal and be so polluted at the same time.

How sad that our environment gets destroyed by chemicals like that and we loose the ability to enjoy its beauty, like we should.  Thanks for sharing these photos.  I really love the cactus flowers!  I never like the desert until I became old enough to appreciate all it has to offer, so I am now very much partial to succulents and other desert life.  Lisa

The dragonfly is neat looking. Did you know that dragonfly's only have a lifespan of 24 hrs. The cactus flowers are beautiful.
