BALLOON CLASSIC, Colorado Springs

One of the biggest and most colorful events in Colorado Springs is the Annual Balloon Classic.  Every year, over the Labor Day weekend dozens of bright hot air balloons fill the morning sky.

When I first moved here the flight path was right over my house and the balloons sounded like fire-breathing dragons over head every time the pilot fired up the burner.  We would stand out in the yard in our pajamas and wave to the passing crews.

In recent years, and possibly because of all of the contruction and development, the balloons' parade route has been altered and I had to drive to the highway for these pictures.

I have never been up in a hot-air balloon but it is a goal of mine, to float above the countryside in the brisk morning air.  There is something very magical about the thought that brings out the child in me.

thanks again for the pictures.  I love flying and haven't been up in a balloon as of yet.  I once flew over 50 or so balloons and it was quite the site.  We also have a balloon fest here in Idaho,  Its in may.  I just want to say keep it up.

To see beauty, you must have a beautyfull sprit. Your pitchers reflect your sprit. My home is colorado, you've brought me great joy today. Thank you

The balloons in conjunction with the mountain backdrop is spectacular.  Also seeing them dancing out of the cornfield is extraordinary.    mark

Hello again......I have to say that I wish I were in Colorado right now. I have often wanted to go on a hot air balloon. These photos make me wish I were in one of those balloons as I sit here looking at them in this photo. You capture things with a camera like an artist would capture a work of art onto a canvas....You are an artist in every sense of the word. Your journal itself is a work of art........Nothing more needs to be said.

Your balloon shots are wonderful!  We have a balloon festival each June, here in Boise.  With your scenery and the blue skies, the shots are just beautiful.
